I had to post this – it was too good not to. Two workmen on Alcester Road in Moseley. One pretends to push the other into the manhole. The other wrestles him to the ground. They playfight… for a full ten minutes. (Click images to enlarge)
It was the weirdest thing. As I crossed the road, two workmen started jostling each other, and in seconds, they were rolling around on the ground, struggling and pushing, each trying to get the better of the other. It was so completely schoolyard.
Now, Birmingham has a reputation as a tough town, but it was all clearly in good fun. There was obviously no animosity between the men. In fact at one point, when they noticed me taking photos, they both looked up and smiled. Wish I’d caught that shot in time.
It did occur to me that it might be some weird sort of homo-erotic street theatre, but they did eventually return to work and so I went and had a coffee at Jibbering Records and listened to a spot of David Axelrod so I could collect my thoughts.
