I caught the end of Nightline as I was doing some dishes. There was something about a gallery exhibition of some kind – something to do with shoes. One of those light and quirky arts pieces they often finish up with on that show. Then I noticed the music… MY music.
It was the track that I’d done with Paul Casserly that’s ended up on the new Strawpeople album. I mentioned it once here before. Kind of a filler track, buried halfway through the album. Part of my ‘media as anaesthetic’ theoretical agenda. Perfect for an Art piece about shoes on a late night news programme.
How exciting. Something that I (co)wrote got on the telly. Used as production library music. It happens to people I know all the time. They always seem so blase about it – so I never realised how exciting it was the first time it happens.
Or maybe I’m just excitable about that kind of stuff, and should try to be more casual, cool and detached.
So now that I’m a bona fide popstar, all I need do is wait for those APRA cheques to pour in, and I’ll be independently wealthy by the age of 30.
Speaking of bona fide popstars, one half of Misfits of Science is a guy called Yudhi who works at a community newspaper with my Dad.
They went to number one on the charts this week – the Misfits, that is, not Dad and Yudhi (just picturing that now).
The Arts Section of the Howick and Pakuranga Times was abuzz. There was a morning tea shout. Scones were had.
It’s a glamorous life, this TV pop stardom.
