Bandcamp du jour: The Dance of the Diaspora – PINKNOISE
When I went to India back in November, I was lucky enough to stay in the Kolkata home of the members of PINKNOISE (actually, I stayed in the vacant apartment one floor up, but ate and hung out with them in their own place). Fantastic hosts, brilliant company, great people – and a really amazing band.
PINKNOISE (all caps) is a family affair: Jay (vocals – front and centre) and Gyan (bass – left), their son Jivraj (drums – right) and their best friend Amyt (guitar – at the back). We were treated to a performance of these very songs in their music room where these demos were recorded.
So when you listen, imagine me and a few others sitting cross-legged on the floor surrounded by the band in the room the size of a rather modest bedroom. And bear in mind that this was the first Indian band I heard while in the country. Not at all what I had expected.
The tracks are free to download on Bandcamp. It’s worth grabbing them and living with them a while. There’s a lot going on and it can be quite a bit to take in all at once – even though this demo only consists of three songs.
