I’m going to go through this slowly, because I’ve been having great difficulty making myself understood when I asked what I thought was a very simple question on Twitter about 6 hours ago. I’m still trying to clarify it – hence this blog post.
I’m making a PowerPoint presentation for a speech I’m giving next week.
I use PowerPoint for Mac to create presentations, and I’m making it on my Macbook Pro.
On my Mac, I have a range of lovely fonts to choose from in PowerPoint. Usually, I use Helvetica Neue. I generally use white text on a black background.
However, in this particular case, I’ve been asked to send the PowerPoint presentation as a file via email to the conference organisers, who will then pre-load it on the computer in the auditorium.
That computer is a PC.

At the shiny new MAC with my shiny new Mac.
I spent the day at the MAC today, consulting with Birmingham radio legend, Robin Valk. The whole place has been done up over the past couple of years and it’s just reopened.
It looks amazing, has free wifi, good coffee (if you survive the wait) and interesting things going on all over the place. And as it’s at what must be the prettiest park in all of Birmingham – and it’s a pleasant enough (albeit hilly) 15-minute bike ride from my house – it’s probably going to be my summer haunt.
I also got to make good use of my shiny new Macbook Pro, which I love to bits, and provide a nice play on words that I won’t get sick of for quite some time.

Every now and then I notice a change in the way I use the internet. Generally speaking, I’ll make adjustments as I go – trying and abandoning new services, sometimes making different things part of my everyday life, and occasionally radically transforming my workflow (always for the better, as it happens).
I have several driving forces when it comes to this stuff. I like things that are shiny, new and well-designed. I like minimalism – both aesthetically and in terms of use, and so any reduction in complexity is always welcomed. I’m also quite extraordinarily lazy, but I like getting an awful lot of things done, which is always a tension I try and resolve by finding the best and easiest ways to achieve a great deal.
I’ve just started to notice that what I do online is quite fundamentally different from what I had been doing until quite recently – and it’s like a long-overdue justification of something I’ve been saying for about eight years now: The Internet is like electricity.
