The traditional double-scoop chocolate-dipped icecream
Some things are worth travelling for. And some things you get nostalgic for even though they’re actually pretty dreadful.
Some foodstuffs that Jake and I have consumed since arriving back in New Zealand:
Kumara; service station Big Ben steak-and-cheese pie; McDonalds KiwiBurger (yes, I’m the worst vegetarian in the world); Chocolate-dipped icecream (one scoop of boysenberry ripple, one of bananaberry); terakihi; Whittaker’s Peanut Slabs; Vogels toast; Hubbards cereal; Griffins Gingernuts; Atomic Coffee; Monteiths; Steinlager and an assortment of local wines.
Ponsonby Pies has closed down (!) and I’m yet to get near a decent creaming soda thickshake, a bottle of L&P or a packet of toffee pops. There’s still time. Other suggestions, fellow ex-pats?

Krispies, Meal Mates, Trident Spicy Thai Noodles, milk bottle lollies, jenny-scones…colby cheese!!
So what exactly is in a KiwiBurger? I’m very curious.
Also, that ice cream sounds delicious… I think I’ll keep that list as a reference if I ever make it over there :)
Boy I really didn’t make the most of my time there. I didn’t get a chocolate dipped ice cream! Have you had a pixie caramel? Feijoas are obviously missed off your list but perhaps someone has already eaten them all… hahaha saved again
We had Burger Fuel (V-Twin burgers with kumara fries and aioli) and I had a drink of Phoenix Feijoa. Hadn’t thought of Pixie Caramels. Now, if I keep chewing, they’ll grow tired of waiting and fall asleep!
A Kiwi Burger is pretty much the same as a quarter pounder, only with the two important ingredients that all good New Zealand burgers contain: an egg and beetroot. Superb.
