Busy as ever… I have a bunch of stuff to write by the end of the month, so I’m piling into that as much as is possible – alongside meetings, training, teaching, trips to London (next Tuesday) and Stoke-on-Trent (this coming Friday) to give presentations about the Online Music research.
Meeting earlier today with Clare from the Learning and Skills Council. Birmingham is lucky enough to be the only region in the country with a fulltime member of staff whose job is to foster, promote and organise activity around music education – in schools, in the community and in the industry. She’s asked me to write a feature for the LSC newsletter about the project, which will be good publicity all round.
Loving Channel 4’s new digital TV channel, 4More – if only for the opportunity to see The Daily Show with Jon Stewart… um… daily.
Many interesting things happening in the world of the web. You might want to keep an eye on the live bookmarks over there to the right. I’m updating those fairly frequently at the moment.
I’m also making good use of Google’s new rss-powered homepage service. It’s a bit like start.com (also good) – but with a few added bonuses. Personalise your own.
Want more Serenity? Video clips here – and I’ve finally managed to get my hands on the comic books that come between the Firefly series and the movie. I have scans – not paper. I’m a tech geek, not a comicbook nerd.
Happy to report that Welby Ings’ short film ‘Boy’ is doing very well. It had a screening on FilmFour last night, it’s winning awards at film festivals around the world, and it’s been shortlisted for an Oscar.
I was lucky enough to work with Don McGlashan (without actually working ‘with‘ Don McGlashan) on the soundtrack (I did the soundtracky ‘sound design’ stuff – in other words, the bits that weren’t ‘Anchor Me’). It was the last thing I made on the MPC4000 before I left it in my old AUT studio back in NZ. I miss that machine.
Conversations with Spoons indicate that we may be looking at a new series of Dubber and Spoons Take The Bus very soon (yes, a ‘series’). More news on that as we make it up.
And I’m really looking forward to seeing the new Radio NZ website. On October the first, Richard Hulse from RNZ said:
“At this point we are in the final stages of testing – there are a couple of technical issues that have been holding us up and we expect our suppliers to have them sorted soon.
So – can’t be far away now…
