A nice day in London yesterday, caught up with my friend Jubt and also my sister and her new baby (albeit very briefly). I was there to attend a seminar in Soho about the possibilities of a post-iPod music industry. Lots to say about that, but I’ll leave it for the moment. I’m still mentally processing and there’s a lot to be written… so I thought I’d tell you about today instead – and maybe return to yesterday tomorrow.

So… meanwhile, back in Birmingham – a friend of mine that I met through this online music course has a record label and a studio. Every now and then he records internet radio shows with guest presenters and puts them up on his label’s website, which is pretty cool for people who – like me – enjoy the kind of music he puts out. I’ve listened to a few shows and there’s some great stuff to be found.

Anyway, he’d asked me to do one, and we finally got around to it this afternoon. Not sure when it’ll be posted online, but it won’t be far away I’m sure. I thought for the sake of it – and for a point of difference – I’d play all New Zealand music.

There’s certainly no shortage of NZ sounds that fit in with the style of the label (already distributing some of it), and the hard bit was choosing what to leave out. Fortunately, Richard’s already offered the chance of a more regular spot so I’ll be able to highlight other things in future.

I was rubbish as a proper DJ. No records anywhere to be seen. I played off CD and iPod, but still managed to do the odd vaguely convincing crossfade.

For my troubles, I was presented with a very cool t-shirt and a big pile of music that I’m already loving to bits.
