Our friend Brendan has returned from his travels and many adventures, and is staying with us at the moment. Really cool to see him again. He arrived on Friday – and in the evening, we all went to the go-kart track for Juliet’s birthday celebration.
It’s also Jake and Hannah’s first anniversary as a couple, so there was more than one celebration going on at once.
It was a good group – 15 of us in all, and we did the grand prix, which consists of a practice run (as shown above), five 6-lap heats each and a 12-lap final.
I managed to make it into the final, starting in 6th position (of eight starters) – and finished in a reasonably respectable 5th – which sounds like good progress, though it should be said that there was a disqualification, so I finished 5th of 7.
It would have been 3rd – I’d done okay throughout the first 10 laps, but I’m clearly too polite. I made the mistake of following the instructions and avoiding contact at all costs. On the last lap, both Jake and Ethan nudged me out of the way and squeezed past.
Still – while not technically a victory at all, I like to see my performance as a moral victory of sorts, and a win for safe driving. No accidents, and no time spent out of control – but still driving fast enough to warrant a place in the top five.
Bobbie and Brendan had such a good time, they’ve taken off to go for another spin today.
