So… the point of the last few days spent getting my head around podcasting has finally paid off.
Clayborne was a radio drama series I was involved with back in the late 1990s, and it still stands as one of my favourite things I’ve done over the years. I’ve always been quite proud of it (and of having worked with all the great people who were part of it), people seem to like it, and for a long time, I’ve tried to find ways of making it accessible to anyone who was interested.

While we were really finding our feet at first (nobody ever taught ME how to make radio drama, so there are some rookie mistakes early on…), I think we actually got quite good at it reasonably quickly – partly out of necessity, having been dropped in the deep end, but mostly out of a desire not to be embarrassed by the product.
It ran for 96 episodes, which broadcast on nationwide talk station Newstalk ZB, and by all accounts, caused a spike in the ratings in the quarter hour it played each day.
Oh yeah – and it won Best Dramatic Production at the New Zealand Radio Awards.
Still… commercial radio never really got the point of radio drama in New Zealand, and New Zealand On Air‘s priorities were focused elsewhere when their funding became scarce.
