I’ve been a Herbert fan for about twelve years. I first came across the Around The House album, constructed out of samples found (you guessed it) around the house. The Bodily Functions album was equally descriptive.
A jazzhead with a sampler for a heart, Matthew Herbert has made some incredible music, both in collaboration with individual vocalists, and with his Big Band. This new album is apparently the first part of a trilogy. I suspect the next albums will be called One Two and One Three.
Any Herbert release is worth having – so when I found his stuff on Bandcamp (on his own Accidental Records label), it had to be my Bandcamp du jour.
One One is highly recommended.
