Italian-based duo 9Lazy9 is one of the bands I got into when I first started going through the Future Sounds of Jazz and similar jazz-meets-downbeat-meets-trip-hop type compilations back in the late 90s and discovering acts on labels like Compost and Ninja Tune.
The first of their songs I came across was Black Jesus, which according to Discogs came out as far back as 1994.
A decade and a half later, they’ve lost none of their groove – in fact, if anything it’s been polished up a little, and made even more sophisticated than it was (check track 5 – Mano Nera, for instance).
Bedsofaland is their first self-released album, and they’ve chosen to use Bandcamp to do that, which is very cool. Because that means I can make it my Bandcamp du jour. Enjoy.
