No – it’s not what you think.
Acid is a very easy-to-use piece of software for making music on computers. I happened to pick up a magazine that had a demo version of the program included on the accompanying CD. Even with the ‘lite-version’ limited options, I was able to knock together something resembling music within just a few hours.
Jake, naturally, took much less time. Sussed that bit of software out, and he’s already moved on to Reason. He also has rhythm. I swear there’s more going on than just heredity in that boy.
So download. Have a listen and a laugh at my expense. My naive audio doodle is there for your entertainment. And if you’re worried about the legalities of downloading an mp3 of music from the world wide interwebnet thing, you needn’t be. All sounds are royalty-free, and I hereby give you permission to do whatever the hell you want with the piece of music that I made.
My composition is free to you – yes, even for commercial purposes. Put your name on it. Release it on vinyl. Make it the theme song for your tv show. Just do me a favour and leave my name out of it.
It’s not good music, and it’s not meant to be. But as an indication of what messing around for a couple of hours with a good bit of software can result in, it’s reasonably instructive. Get hold of the Computer Music magazine ‘Beginner’s Special’ (April 2004), install the free software and have a good play. I found mine at Magazzino, if that’s any help.
If nothing else, as procrastination strategies go – this one’s a master of time-suckage.
