FCC Approves iBiquity Digital Radio Technology

No surprises there… but it’s encouraging to see that the American legislature understands the technological arguments in favour of a system that is software-upgradeable. Here in NZ (the only developed country in the world with no government policy on DAB) our Spectrum bureaucrats are still quite keen on the UK Eureka 147 system… (sigh)

Federal regulators on Thursday approved a new technology for offering digital radio service, one of the biggest upgrades in decades in sound quality and choice of stations and a challenge to the growing pay-satellite radio services.

Satellite radios head for used car lots

The radio company equivalent of Sky Digital figures out that you don’t have to own a brand new luxury car in order to be able to afford $10 a month for 200 channels of CD-quality digital audio

XM Satellite Radio unveiled plans Wednesday to supply thousands of independent car dealerships, including used car lots, with $400 satellite radio receivers to offer to their customers.
