Last night I invented the game of DUGI.
I’ve had a trial game of it (in which I was narrowly beaten by my 9 year-old son) and I think with only one or two modifications, it’ll be a very good game. The rules are simpler than Checkers – but the strategy play can get as demanding as Chess. I came up with another level of play this morning by adding two pieces for each player that can move twice per turn. One forwards, and one sideways. A simple addition, but it will make the game far more complex to play. Perhaps there can be ‘Dugi’ and ‘Pro Dugi’.
Thoroughly enjoyable – if slightly frustrating when you lose to a child. A couple of modifications, and it’s off to see the game manufacturing people.
