Yesterday’s technology, today – or possibly a day or two later
Today I sent off the first of thirty homemade compilation cassette tapes, via that old-fashioned delivery technology known as “posting”.
It’s the start of a project I’m doing for the next 30 days – one cassette a day to a different person, on the theme of ‘Sister Cities of Sound’.
Here’s the full explanation – but essentially, I’m pairing British cities with New Zealand cities, and choosing songs that somehow reflect my impressions of those places – one nation on each side.
London / Auckland was dispatched today in time for the 5.30pm collection, and it’s on the way to a former student of mine who graduated today, and essentially got in first.
Most of the tapes are now spoken for, but there are a few left. If you have reason to want a free mixtape about the following cities, be sure and drop me a note quick as you can…
10. Cardiff / Nelson
14. Sunderland / Invercargill
15. Belfast / Palmerston North
24. Bath / Porirua
27. Wrexham / Levin
29. Swindon / Lower Hutt
