Couchsurfing USA

Steve

We had another couchsurfer come and stay with us. An American, this time. Steve from the Bronx. Nice man, who had previously been in Vienna, but had spent a long time in Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya introducing the clergy there to the idea of gay Christians.

A man who’s up for a challenge, then.

He was in Birmingham for a conference / convention thing at Carrs Lane Church where he was spreading the tolerance and inclusion message. It was a tough mission. He is, after all, a member of one of the least understood, least accepted and most socially-ostracised groups around today:

He’s a McCain supporter.

He actually ‘came out’ to us as a Republican after he arrived. Had we known he was ‘one of those’, we might have thought twice about inviting him into our home. Seriously though, lovely man and a delightful house guest.

So far – nothing but good experiences. Couple more coming up this month – and I need to find a place to stay in Cardiff next week, so it’s back to the Couchsurfing website.

  1. Your guest sounds complex, or maybe complicated, and sounds like he would have been an interesting interview. Or does couchsufer etiquette dissuade one from making projects with/from the people who visit?

  2. Hi Andrew,

I assume you’re in town for the Swn thing? I’ll be there and you’re welcome to crash at our place. We’ve just moved in and so our spare bedroom is still covered in boxes, but you’re more than welcome.

p.s. The Swn guys (John in particular) should hopefully be able to vouch that I’m not a psycho… :)

  3. It’s all about couch surfing — or web surfing — or actual, real in-the-water surfing.

    Mmm…yes.
