My happy place
One of the things I made an absolute point of doing in Chicago was to visit a record shop or two. As you’d imagine, this was a fairly good place for someone like me on that particular front.
In fact, it couldn’t have been better. Records that sell for £20 upwards here in the UK were sitting next to records you simply cannot find – and they were all around the £5-6 mark. Fortunately, I’d planned ahead and only taken the barest minimum of clothing and personal effects with me so that there would be plenty of room in the suitcase for the journey home.
I’m hoping to get back to Chicago in October. I will be taking a second, empty suitcase.

ooohhh, that looks fun. Quite jealous. What did you score? One of my happiest days was going record-shopping in San Francisco (in 2006), and discovering a swag of LPs by War at Amoeba Records, which you never ever see in AKL. All for under US$5!
