Pimms in the sun

Juliet, Bobbie and Louise enjoy their beverages

It was a gorgeous day yesterday, and so after a strenuous morning watching the lawns being mowed, I headed to the Fighting Cocks pub in Moseley, where I met with Bobbie, Louise and Juliet for brunch.

Bob had been in town shoe shopping for summer footwear. There would have been a dress purchase as well had a suitable garment been available from a half decent store at a reasonable price – but it was not to be. She texted me to let me know she was on the way:

“On the 50 bus – two pairs of shoes and no dress.”

I replied that I thought this was inappropriate attire for public transport.

We had our breakfasts and coffees, but noted that the Fighting Cocks had embraced summer by making Pimms available. Not, sadly, in jugs like they do at Wimbledon, but Pimms nonetheless (for American readers, Pimms is an alcoholic beverage served with lemonade on ice with a handful of fruit salad, a bit of cucumber and a mint leaf thrown in the top. It’s as English as tea).

Like champagne, Pimms is one of those drinks that makes you happy. Not one of those drinks that makes you mean. Though I suppose the summer sun, which generally accompanies its consumption is a key ingredient too. This is the UK. Grab it while you can.

Headed home for a nap, followed by an evening at Sam’s to talk about radio. So a pretty successful Sunday, in my book.
