Postcard 6: Ponsonby’s Cafe Mile

Mr. Fortune, Mr. McClung and visitor from Birmingham
I had the first of what I suspect will be many Ponsonby Road cafe meetings. This one was with Mike McClung from New Zealand On Air and Gary Fortune of the New Zealand Music Industry Commission.
We went to what to me is a new place called Cafe People, towards the K’ Road end of Ponsonby Road. The food was good, the Long Black was so great I can’t even tell you how much I’ve missed real, decent, proper coffee that’s been recently (and decently) roasted, freshly ground and made by someone who can accurately describe themselves as a barista.
Gary had a meeting to get to, so after our chat and catch up (the three of us had hung out together in New York, so it hadn’t been that long), McClung and I headed back to his NZ On Air office, where he loaded me up with Kiwi Hit Discs, NZ Music videos and an apparently rare ‘Platinum Plus’ NZOA Huffer t-shirt, designed by Dion of the D4.
There’s a story behind the shirt, but it won’t fit on this postcard, so remember to ask me about it when I get home.
Having a wonderful time, wish you were here.
