Voting is going on for the Brummie of the Year at BirminghamItsNotShit.co.uk.
I strongly urge you to stop in and cast your vote for Pete Ashton — the blogger, photographer and creative hub around whose web offerings the rest of us all dance (metaphorically).
His work includes: PeteAshton.com, Created in Birmingham, The Custard Factory website, Pete’s Birmingham Gig Guide, his Flickr stream (actually a raging torrent of great photos of our city and its doings), and the bewildering array of miscellany that appears at A Smursh of Pete.
Pete goes to, supports and advocates everything that happens in this city that’s of value. He’s an active Flickr meet-upper, music enthusiast and our only full-time professional blogger. Not only that, but he’s smart, an entertaining writer, and either the cause, catalyst, context or conduit for the lion’s share of everything that goes on in this town that’s of any value.
A couple of years back, if I remember correctly, Brummie of the Year went to a red panda that escaped and went for a bit of an explore. This year, it should go to a human being that escapes, goes for a bit of an explore… and lets us know what’s going on out there.
New Zealand readers — imagine if Russell Brown stopped reading the newspaper, and just went out a lot and had a nice time. That sort of thing.
Go vote now.
