I’m reading this book at the moment — it’s the history of reggae in the UK.
Found it for £3 in a shop that still sells compact discs and DVDs — and it came with a free CD inside, so I thought I’d share the listening pleasure.
This track’s from 1963. Cute little R&B-ish instrumental. The Planets were among the first reggae artists recording in Britain. They were the backup band for trombonist Rico Rodriguez, who’d arrived in London from Jamaica the year before.
When they were with him, it was the Rico Combo. By themselves it was The Planets. Seems not too much else is known about them.
This was originally issued as SWAY SW002, if that’s any help to you.
