I’ve got a funded research project that I need some technical assistance with. I’ve got a bit of money to spend on a coder who can cobble together a Frankenstein piece of software with a friendly user interface, built out of other bits of open source code.
Ideally, this coder will be in the Birmingham region (though I guess that’s not strictly necessary in these days of video-conferencing) and will be able to work for the peanuts I’m able to offer.
Someone for whom designing a bit of bespoke software for a local online music business will add nicely to the CV.
Someone for whom the kudos of contributing to the greater good by generating an open source project that will benefit entrepreneurial small-medium music businesses online will outweigh the fact that the money’s not terribly impressive.
Probably a recent graduate. Could this be a job for the Multipack?

What programming language(s) are we looking at here?
I’d like it programmed in ‘Make It Go’ please.
To be honest, I don’t know much about programming languages and what the advantages, disadvantages and recommended applications for them are.
Python seems to be a popular language for a great deal of open source software, but I’d be just as impressed with Perl, PHP, C++ or even Fortran if it’ll do what we want it to do.
Essentially you’d be writing a fancy macro. Along the lines of what Auto GK does for video compression: a batch of pre-existing software simplified with a single front end.
Is that in any way helpful?
