You make some interesting points. At the risk of sounding like my grandmother (but she’s not around any more, so someone has to do it), I lament the general lapse in spelling and grammar. I refuse to accept that ‘effect’ and ‘affect’ can mean the same thing! Don’t people know that bad grammar/spelling are aesthetically jarring thereby reducing the impact of the intended message?!
