Listen to this: Go Digital – and read this: Radio mail links Pacific islands
A internet connection speed of 2Kbps may not sound like much, but it is providing a lifeline for the people of the Solomon Islands. The struggling South Pacific nation has endured years of bloodshed, corruption and economic decline.
What a great use of two technologies: old-fashioned shortwave radio and e-mail.
Here’s the twist. I got the info from a radio programme, which is distributed online by the BBC, and which I found out about through a weblog directory. Internet radio, about radio internet.
That has a nice symmetry about it.
