Aerogel is the weirdest stuff. 99.8% fresh air, it was recorded by the Guinness Book of Records people as the least dense solid in the world – and yet its actual properties are amazing: it provides 39 times more insulation than the best fiberglass insulation; it’s 1,000 times less dense than glass… and it’s used by NASA to collect comet dust.
This brick is sitting on some aerogel – and no, this is not a doctored photo.
